What I’m Hiking
Photos at the top, hike log below. Photos are roughly in chronological order.
Photos before November 2024 shot with a Canon EOS R with an EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM or EF 24–105mm f/4L IS II USM.
Photos starting November 2024 taken with a Canon EOS R5 with one of the above two lenses, or more likely a RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM or if the shot looks really compressed or telephoto-y, it’s probably a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6l IS II USM.

2021: Melanie West topping out Button Rock Mountain in early Spring.
2021: Literal frosted tips after Estes Cone in near zero temps and sustained snow.
2021: The Columbia River Gorge from to top of Dog Mountain. Used this to test the altitude advantage coming from Colorado: made one of the hardest hikes in the gorge a total breeze.

2019: The Loch, Rocky Mountain National Park. On the way to Sky Pond.
2019: For whatever reason, I think this picture really expresses the healthy terror we should all feel in the big mountains. Evening approaching with strong winds at under the Sharkstooth in Rocky Mountain National Park, knowing that we need to set up camp quick or things are going to get bad fast.
2019: A very rare phenomenon: snow rollers. They happen only in very specific conditions--in this case, a big dump of dry snow followed by slow warming over several days, a high slope angle in the shade, and heavy down-slope winds. At the bottom of the gorge below Andrews Glacier.
2019: A 5:00am shot of Monte Antelao, known as "King of the Dolomites".--from the approach to Tofana di Rozes in Northern Italy.

2019: Forcella de la Roa, the loose skree pass in the distant left of the photo. Insane.
2019: Another shot of Forcella de la Roa looking back after the initial descent.

2019: Sassolungo in the distance: a future climbing objective. Incredible landscape.
2019: A view of our entire 26 mile loop around the Puez-Odle Altopiano. Started in Selva di Val Gardena (the town at the bottom of the photo), hiked up the valley to the right and topped out, then traversed behind the Olde Group (sharp peaks in the far distance), straight up Forcella Pana to Seceda (the green meadow in the left background, and back down to Selva again.

2018: The waterfalls near Hanging Lake, Colorado.
2018: The waterfalls near Hanging Lake Colorado.
2018: This is why we were the only ones hiking to Hanging Lake that day. One slip and that's it. The guardrails were knee or ankle height, which is just about enough to send you flipping end over end off the cliff. Spikes are critical.
2018: Snowshoeing into Pine Creek Cookhouse in Aspen, Colorado.

Hike Log
Most recent hikes at the top. More hikes than not are left off because I’m lazy and won’t be adding historical hikes beyond what I’ve logged in with my Garmin, Gaia GPS, or All Trails. Planning to keep up to date starting with 2021.
Difficult rating is calibrated for the average American hiker, roughly approximating All Trails’ rating calibration.
